Happy Monday Everyone!!! The weekend was crazy. It started off with Friday finishing off a Curious George cake for my friend’s daughter’s 5th birthday, working on this post and running some errands. I worked all weekend (which was a mad house and I got recognized from my blog!!!), and my boys were busy bees. My son had 2 birthday parties on Saturday, so my poor husband had to cart him literally from one to another. Not sure who was more tired by the end of the day!!!
Here is the cake I made for my friend’s daughter’s birthday.
The outfit I was wearing on Friday is one that I would be consider to be a staple in my wardrobe. I would go as far as to call it my “momiform”: uniform for moms- boyfriend jeans, sweater layered over a white oxford shirt, flats and my pink trench coat. I accessorized with a Michael Kors gold watch and a cobalt studded cuff bracelet. Since it’s supposed to finally be Spring here this week, you will be seeing a lot more flats, maybe even wedges and my boyfriend jeans. HOORAY!!!!! I define this as my “momiform” because it’s comfortable yet fashionable. I’m not wearing my Lululemon’s out of the house, but I am still just as comfortable as if I did. By the way did you hear some of Lululemon’s black yoga pants are see-through? Click here for the article. Another reason, ladies to not leave the house in yoga pants, unless you are actually going to workout or to yoga. Anyways, I digress. Here is what I wore Friday.
Trench, Blouse & Sweater (Jacob). Jeans (Gap). Flats (Aldo). Purse (Fossil). Bracelet (The Bay). Watch (Michael Kors).
Highschool
In the most recent edition of In Style magazine I read an article that asked celebrities: “How would your high school teachers describe your younger self?” My immediate response was “talkative”. By the way so was Reese Witherspoon’s response, just a little FYI!!! They had to separate me from my friends all the time. I’m expecting the same thing from my son. He is like his mother, a social butterfly. In my grade 12 yearbook a friend compiled all of our grad pictures and added what we would most likely end up being/doing. This is what ended up in the year book:
I was watching CSI Las Vegas on Wednesday and they had an episode on about a killing at one of CSI’s highschool reunion. The poor guy was dreading it, because he wasn’t one of the “popular kids” in highschool. For some it was their glory days, for others it was a memory they wish they could forget. So how was your highschool years? I actually didn’t mind highschool. Most of the mean girls had left by then and we were all pretty much left alone. It was great. Would I describe it as the best days of my life? No, it wasn’t. It was certainly better than most and I was thankful that my juniorhigh years were far behind me.
At a playdate recently, we were discussing school and how everyone places so much importance on it. LIke how well you do in highschool, depicts your future. The truth is that it doesn’t. Honestly highschool has nothing to do with who I am now. Getting good grades doesn’t mean anything 20 years down the road if you haven’t done anything with your life. We get so involved in highschool and feel like it’s the be-all end-all, when in reality it’s a small part of our lives. I think back to the person I was in highschool and I’m not the same person. I don’t let who I was back then define who I am now. That’s the advice one of the CSI character’s gave to the other: “you have to let go of back then and move on”. It’s hard to do. I know for me juniorhigh was awful. I was teased, bullied and made fun of on a regular basis, but I don’t let that define me now. Sure I still carry some of those insecurities with me, but I’m not that person and I’m not 14 years old anymore. Thank God I’m not. At 14, I had braces, the big “Sally Jessy Raphael” glasses, long brown scraggily hair and huge teased bangs!!! Don’t make fun, because I know that most of us have one of those pictures lying around !!! Thank God those days are long gone. Sometimes I still feel like that insecure 14 year old girl I used to be and then I remind myself that I am no longer that young, girl; that I have the power.
So how would you describe highschool? Is it something you wish to forget or to relive?
May this blog inspire you to make your own momiform or to recreate my look.

Your outfit is too cute- easy and breezy. And that cake… you are a whiz in the kitchen! It’s so funny to look back on Junior High and High School days, isn;t it? It’s nice to know that “it gets better” in the end. These younger days don’t define who we will become at all!
Thanks HOlly. Isn’t that the truth!!! And thank goodness!!!
You made that cake?! Dang, I am impressed! Looks great!
