The Story of my MK Bag & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

Michael Kors Hamilton Large Tote

Isn’t she beautiful?!?!?!? That’s what I thought the first time I saw her 3 years ago. So here’s the story behind how I got this purse. A few weekends ago, my girlfriend and I were downtown and as we were walking into the Michael Kors store, I was telling her that I’ve been saving for this bag but now I’m not so sure I want to buy it. Funny how I’ve been eyeing it for 3 years now and now that I have the money, I wasn’t sure. Anyways as we are walking into the store, I see 40% off signs. I joke with my friend that my bag is the one that is never on sale. Well, I was eating those words as the sale associate overhears me and tells me that in fact this purse is 40% off. I couldn’t believe it. I was so excited. I could hardly believe it!!!!!!

In January I started a separate savings account where I put away the dollar amount that corresponded to that week. For instance for the first week, I put away $1, the second week $2, etc. until you reach all 52 weeks. Fast forward 6 months and I’ve managed to save more than the cost of the purse. With it being 40% off and money in my savings account I didn’t feel guilty buying it. Needless to say I was very excited when I bought it. I’ve been wanting it for so long but I couldn’t justify spending $400 on it.

The morale of this story is that being patient pays off, and saving money even more so. Over the years I haven’t always done a good job of saving for things and I felt really good being able to buy this purse with money and not on credit. I’m also learning that quality not quantity is important when it comes to purses. Sure I could have found a similar purse for much cheaper, but the quality is not the same. I would rather have less purses but good quality ones that last me longer. In case you’re interested in this purse, it’s still on sale. Click here to check it out.

That is a Gorgeous MK Bag. I am in love with all the looks you chose from last week. A Denim Jacket always looks great over a Dress. And I fell in love with Jen’s Dress. =)

I agree about purchasing bags that are of good quality. I love fun, affordable bags too, but I like to keep 1 or 2 nice handbags in my closet. I have never owned an MK bag but I love this one. It can be used all year! If I am spending a lot of money on an item, it must be versatile! I think I may add this to my wish list! Thanks for the fun today! Blessings! Susan

I am always debating on whether to splurge on certain bags or not. I splurge if I think the color will match many of my closet items. If I think I will wear it to work. Etc. but I am like you…my purchase takes a lot of time to consider all the factors…hahah

I’m going to keep saving and some of the money is going to my husband so he can get himself something he wants and the rest is going towards a Dyson vacuum :)

First of all thank you so much for featuring me as one of your favorite looks from last week, I really appreciate the link up opportunity each week and meeting other wonderful bloggers. I totally agree with you that when it comes to bags you need to pay for quality and only buy a few a year, they last a long time and do not go out of fashion so fast. I love this one and how you saved for it. Its one of my favorite colors for shoes and bags!

Way to go!!! I loved your method of saving, such a great idea. I actually have this purse in burgundy and it is a great bag. I also waited until it went on sale (boxing day sale) and got it then. Enjoy it!
