Camo, Olive & Pink & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

What does one wear when it’s raining? You’re pink rainboots, a light weight camo sweater and an olive jacket. This was my outfit on Monday. I love living in Vancouver, but I hate the rainy season with a passion!!!!! It literally rains for about 8 months. Basically once our heat wave ends, it can very quickly turn into Monsoon season. This was the perfect errand running, Kindergarten information session, take your child to dance practice outfit.

Vest + Tee + Jean Skirt + Sneakers + Statement Necklace = The Perfect Mom-On-The-Go Outfit & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

I absolutely love this outfit. I’m always looking for new ways to wear a simple t-shirt. As a busy mom, I tend to gravitate towards jeans and a t-shirt with either a blazer or cardigan. The other day I decided to spruce up a simple grey t-shirt with an olive vest, statement necklace, jeans skirt and converse runners. It was a chic, yet simple and most importantly comfortable outfit. I want to be comfortable when I’m running errands, especially when I’m with my son, yet I also want to feel good about myself and stylish.

Favourite Fall Outfit & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

One of my favourite Fall outfits so far has been pairing a blouse with my boyfriend jeans and wearing them with booties. I was in a store and this lady complemented me on my outfit. It felt so nice. She said “I love your style!” It made me feel really good. Is that arrogant or conceited? Cuz it’s not like I feel like I’m this hot thing or anything, it just felt really nice to receive a complement from a complete stranger.

An Edgy LBD, Wedding Anniversary Celebration & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

Before I get to my post, I just wanted to thank you all for your sweet and supportive comments in regards to my absence and to Monday’s post. This blog isn’t going anywhere, it’s just been a crazy Summer. Here’s hoping the teachers strike ends soon so we can get back to normal and I can enjoy some “me” time while my son is at Kindergarten.

I also wanted to mention that I finally joined Instagram!!!!!! I know it’s taken me a long time, as many of you have asked if I have an IG account. Well now I do. I’m still trying to get the hang of it, but I would love it if you would follow me @ http://instagram.com/vodkainfusedlemonade

Last Wednesday, my husband and I celebrated our 9 year wedding anniversary. On Saturday we headed out for a fabulous dinner at Hawksworth restaurant. Without hesitation, I would describe my husband and I as foodies. We absolutely love food. A good friend of mine recommended it to me and it did not disappointed. We had a wonderful evening.

Banana Republic was having their 50% off Friends and Family sale a while back and I fell in love with their black Sloan-Fit Faux-Leather Sheath dress. I like it because it’s an edgy take on a classic dress. It was the perfect dress to celebrate our 9 year wedding anniversary. It was a big hit with my husband :)

How To Create An Outfit & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

Last week I needed to run to the grocery store and I was just going to put on a maxi dress and head out the door. Then it dawned on me that I could add a denim vest, my heart pendant and my cross-body bag to make my simple maxi dress into an outfit. Have you ever just walked out the door in simple jeans and t-shirt and then saw someone who added a necklace and blazer and thought wow, she sure looks put together??? That’s exactly what I was thinking as I was putting together my outfit. Why head out the door in a simple maxi when I can look and feel more put together??? It took me only a few extra minutes and I felt much better about myself.

Maxi Dress

Dress (Gap). Vest (Old Navy). Necklace (J Crew). Watch (Michael Kors). Bracelet (Stella & Dot). Purse (Fossil c/o The Bay).

The key to creating an outfit is to slowly build on it. Start with a blank canvas. In my case it was a simple maxi dress. Next step is to add a cardigan, blazer or a denim vest. The idea is to complete the look. You can also do that with a scarf, once the weather gets cooler. Next add some jewelry. A great statement necklace, bracelets, earrings, watch, hat, you name. The key is to add some subtle touches. Then add some cute shoes, in my case I decided on some sandals. I then completed my look with a cross-body bag. Again the purse can bring the entire outfit together. It may seem daunting but play around with your jewelry, with hats, scarves, purses, shoes. It’s exactly like dress up!!!!!!

The next time you’re putting together an outfit, consider adding some finishing touches like jewelry, hat, scarf, fabulous shoes or cardigan/blazer/denim vest to make an outfit out it.

A How-To On Top Knots & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

Top Knot

Last week I posted a picture of me and my top knot. Since I got such a positive response, I thought I would include a quick how-to on creating a top knot. Honestly it’s as easy as 1-2-3. 3 steps and you’ve got yourself a top knot.

Laid Back Birthday Celebration & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

This past Saturday I had a small, intimate birthday celebration with a few friends. The past few years I did a bigger thing with more people, but this year I just wanted to keep it quiet and simple. We headed downtown to Reflections, this amazing patio restaurant in Georgia Hotel. It’s located on the 4th floor and is absolutely gorgeous. A few months ago a friend and I went there for the first time and I feel in love with the scenery and the food. We had an amazing time. I had a glass of Sangria that was the size of my head. Needless to say between the heat and the size of the Sangria, one was more than enough. After dinner we headed to Black and Blue for more drinks and dessert. Again this restaurant did not disappoint. They had a fridge full of aging meat. It looked absolutely delicious. For those of you vegetarian, just ignore the above comment :). Thank you to the ladies for taking me out. I had a great relaxing evening celebrating my 35th birthday. My husband has something planned for this weekend as Saturday is my actual birthday. Can’t wait to see what that sneaky monkey has up his sleeve :)

The Story of my MK Bag & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

Michael Kors Hamilton Large Tote

Isn’t she beautiful?!?!?!? That’s what I thought the first time I saw her 3 years ago. So here’s the story behind how I got this purse. A few weekends ago, my girlfriend and I were downtown and as we were walking into the Michael Kors store, I was telling her that I’ve been saving for this bag but now I’m not so sure I want to buy it. Funny how I’ve been eyeing it for 3 years now and now that I have the money, I wasn’t sure. Anyways as we are walking into the store, I see 40% off signs. I joke with my friend that my bag is the one that is never on sale. Well, I was eating those words as the sale associate overhears me and tells me that in fact this purse is 40% off. I couldn’t believe it. I was so excited. I could hardly believe it!!!!!!

In January I started a separate savings account where I put away the dollar amount that corresponded to that week. For instance for the first week, I put away $1, the second week $2, etc. until you reach all 52 weeks. Fast forward 6 months and I’ve managed to save more than the cost of the purse. With it being 40% off and money in my savings account I didn’t feel guilty buying it. Needless to say I was very excited when I bought it. I’ve been wanting it for so long but I couldn’t justify spending $400 on it.

The morale of this story is that being patient pays off, and saving money even more so. Over the years I haven’t always done a good job of saving for things and I felt really good being able to buy this purse with money and not on credit. I’m also learning that quality not quantity is important when it comes to purses. Sure I could have found a similar purse for much cheaper, but the quality is not the same. I would rather have less purses but good quality ones that last me longer. In case you’re interested in this purse, it’s still on sale. Click here to check it out.

Wicked & Tres-Chic Fashion Thursday Link Up

Wicked

This past Saturday my girlfriend and I saw the musical Wicked. It had come here a few years ago, but I never saw it, and I’ve regretted it ever since. I tried to read the book a few times and I just couldn’t get into it so I think that’s why I was never interested in seeing it the first time it came. After hearing the amazing reviews, I made a decision that whenever it was coming to Vancouver next, I would see it. It did not disappoint!!!! From the opening scene of the monkeys, I was mesmerized. I love the spin of the “bad witch”. I like that there’s a back story and that there’s more than meets the eye.

Wicked

Wicked

Wicked

I could totally relate to Elphaba’s character and how she felt like she didn’t belong at school. I liked that she didn’t change herself, despite Glinda’s best efforts. She stayed true to herself and stood by her convictions. I liked that one of the themes explored was that true beauty is not the conventional beauty that society portrays, rather it’s in the eye of the beholder. One of my favourite lines is when Fiyero tells Elphaba: “BUT YOU’VE GOT ME SEEING THROUGH DIFFERENT EYES”. He’s looking at her soul, her spirit, not her outward appearance, but her beauty within. He loves that she fights for what she believes in. In the end isn’t that what love is all about!?!?!? Loving the person for who they really are. Sure physical beauty may attract to the person initially but if there’s got to be a bigger connection. Elphaba shows us that it’s what on the inside that counts!!!!!

I could go on and on but I wouldn’t want to spoil it if you haven’t seen it. I definitely will be seeing this musical again and bringing my family this time.
